- FSSAI Southern Region encompasses the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana as well as the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry. FSSAI Southern Region with Regional office situated at Chennai has 7 sub offices which monitors food imports entry points across South India along with enforcement..
- Andhra Pradesh is the fifth largest producer of horticulture crops and produces about 21.0 m MT of horticulture produce
- Karnataka is the largest state in South India and accounts 70% coffee production in India.
- Kerala accounts for 75% of spices exports from India and is a major producer of coir and coconut.
- Tamil Nadu is the second-largest state economy in India and highest producer of banana, tapioca, and cloves in India
- Telangana is the largest producer of turmeric and sweet lemon in the country and ranks third in chilies
- Lakshadweep Islands is a union territory of India There has been a steady growth of fish production which crossed 12,000 tonnes in the recent years which is about 5% of the estimated fishable potential.
- Puducherry is union territory in the South of India and huge potential for cold storage facilities, cattle/poultry feed manufacturing facilities.
